Another thing that's been on my mind
Jul. 14th, 2008 10:36 amOkay, pretty much seeing your guys' comments on how this story seems to be less entertaining each chapter made me want to say a couple of things (don't worry, I'm not going to whine or flame).
-This chapter is quite hard to write, mainly of the subject canon. I could go a little farther if I want to, but I know some people still have that debate fresh in the minds. Heck, not too long ago I have a friend who did a preview of his fic and a couple of reviewers and him had a quick debate on that. In this chapter I just want to show how one of the many debates in fanfiction is canon. I could make it funnier and go over the top if I want, but am afraid I'll get flaming PMs. O.o;
-It's beginning to become harder to come up with jokes. I try my best to make each chapter funnier than before, but it's not easy. One, don't want to end up using the same jokes over and over again. Two, I actually think I drag this story a little bit more than it should be. I actually have more jokes coming, but it's...scattered bit by bit to put it bluntly. I guess you can say I'm starting to lose my steam a bit.
-Probably I shouldn't say this, but this is something that's in my mind for sometime. I'm actually losing a bit of interest in this fic. I love doing this story and sometimes I still giggle over the jokes I did from time to time, but this isn't sometime I'm too serious about. I pretty much wrote this story after thinking about it for some time, got a bit stressed out with arguments on fanfiction being all serious business, and also taking a break from my main project, "Nothing, Everything." A little after I finish the first draft of this fic, I began checking over NE again and then I became very interested in trying to make that story better and more indepth.
The thing is NE I've been working on it on and off for almost two years already and also I have big plans for the characters, plot, and themes for that story. Hence, why I posted a couple of chapters of NE faster than DT. XD;
DT, on the other hand, is just something I want to try out and go from there. I didn't expect too much out of this fic except for a few laughs and maybe some people will learn to not be so uptight about fanfiction overall and also bring up a few things that's been going on in OT fics, but in a lighter note.
I guess what I'm trying to say here is if there's a few reasons why this story is getting staler, it's a combination of NE, losing interest, and running out of steam. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop posting the story here. There's a couple of jokes I think you guys will like so we'll have to wait and see. Also, who knows, I might suddenly get interested in this story again one day. :)
So yeah, sorry in advance if later on this story doesn't meet your guys' expectations. ^^;
All right, for this entry I'm not asking for sympathy nor more reviews for this fic of that sort. Instead, the part I said of how I lost interest in "Destiny's Tricks" fic got me to thinking. If any of you ever done both a comedy/parody fic and a more serious one at the same time, do you tend to have more interest in the serious one? If so, what makes you do the comedy/parody fic in the first place and then suddenly lose interest in it? Is that normal?
Urgh, I guess part of me is afraid I'll lose readers if the story is not that funny (to them) anymore, but at the same time I'm not all that too serious on that fic like "Nothing, Everything."

Date: 2008-07-14 06:07 pm (UTC)Oh yeah, I had that happen to me. Wayyyy long ago. I eventually up on the parody-mostly cause have to work really hard to be funny, haha XD-but mostly because the other fic was taking up alot of time.
Ironically, I ended up axing the serious fic. Go figure.

Date: 2008-07-14 07:09 pm (UTC)I guess your running out of material? I dunno. Why dont you take a break from the parody and work on NE. Then in a few weeks, read around the forums. You may pick up some insipration.

Date: 2008-07-14 07:35 pm (UTC)Well, the thing is DT is not really based on any OT fics. It's kind of more of a combination of a few things I saw on OT fics and also the topics posted on both Serebii and at another forum. ^^; That, and inspiration from a couple of parodies.
Cool that you liked DT. ^^Also, I actually had DT done but at the moment I'm revising some stuff before I post the chapters, like for instance seeing if I can get more jokes put in. I've been thinking through the story for a bit and wondered if I put enough comedy in there. O.o I'm also doing the same thing with NE, except this time trying to wonder how to make the story more indepth and such. ^^;
Hm, I guess I can do that. Focus more on NE and then go back fixing DT later. Speaking of inspiration, I should read Chozo's fic "Penultimate," which is also a parody of sorts (hadn't read the story yet, but read the reviews). ^^

Date: 2008-07-14 08:30 pm (UTC)Intresting. Like I said before, quite hilarious.
Yeah, I like it a lot. Good idea. There could be some more jokes, but the onew you have in are still funny. If I can find the time next week, I'l drop by to review NE and DT.
Yeah, that could work too. Just a suggestion, as a fellow fic writer.

Date: 2008-07-14 09:08 pm (UTC)DT is like that for you. At some point, though, there does come a time when either the fandom doesn't give you any material to work with for a parody, or the comedy just doesn't come to you anymore.
I do enjoy writing my comedy fics. (Have another one planned for a different fandom, which I'm looking forward to writing.) But I'm not going to spend my time making them my main priority, when I have "serious" fics that I really want to write.
So yeah, I do have more interest in my serious fics. They're the ones I put the most thought into, the ones that I care about the most. But I do the comedy ones as a change of pace. It happens to all authors. At some point, they want to try something different, so they do, but they tend to go back to where their main interests lie.
You're normal, Bay. *thumbs up*
And I agree with Manaphyman's suggestion. Take a break from working on DT. Don't think about it, don't touch the story. Just let it stew, and work on NE. This way, you won't feel burned out trying to concentrate on two stories at the same time.

Date: 2008-07-15 07:46 pm (UTC)Anyways, you're right on the jokes part. Most of the time I just let the jokes come to me, like the pun joke at the prologue. It just...came to me one time at work. XD
Also, sure you can review the story if you like. ^^

Date: 2008-07-16 04:13 am (UTC)I don't think your hard work goes ignored. You probably just have a couple closet readers. ;) Also, think it this way: maybe they don't really know what to say other than "great job!!!!1!!" Also, even though a few people enjoying your work is good, in the end as young as you love your work and enjoyed it, then you're good. ^^
